IgM myeloma is a rare cause of monoclonal macroglobulinemia and it was reported by
several authors in other countries, tut with the best of our knowledge, this might be the
first case report of the literature in Korea.
Recently the authors experienced a case of macroglobulinemia due to IgM myeloma. A
60 year-old man was admitted because of intermittent headache, lumbago and
paresthesia of the left low leg. In this case, serum protein electrophoresis revealed tall
and sharp peak in the β-globulin fraction, which shows high IgM globulin in
immunoelectrophoresis, Lateral skull film showed multiple variable sized radiolucent area
ia the frontal and parietal region, Bone marrow biopsy showed 100% cellularity and
plasma cells occupying more than 50% of the mucleated elements. A diagnosis of IgM
myeloma was made. He was treated with BCNU, melphalan, cyclophosphamide,
vincristine, prednisone with some improvement.4 brief review of the literature was made.
